Yangtze River Delta Forms Container House Industry Cluster, Suzhou’s High-End Customization Capacity Leads the Country
On April 12, 2026, according to industry data, East China has formed a significant container house industry cluster. Suzhou and Nantong cities in Jiangsu Province are home to more than 40% of the container house manufacturers in the Yangtze River Delta region. Leveraging the local mature steel structure industrial chain, these enterprises have formed a complete production system from raw material procurement to finished product assembly. The well-developed supporting supply chain reduces raw material procurement costs by 15%–20%, and the region has ample reserves of professional technical talent, with more than 30% of China’s modular building designers concentrated around Shanghai alone. From a segmentation perspective, different areas have formed differentiated competitive landscapes – Suzhou manufacturers focus on high-end customized products, with an average delivery cycle controlled within 25 days, maintaining a leading position in the domestic high-end container house customization field; Ningbo enterprises specialize in standardized container exports, with 60% of products sold to Southeast Asian and African markets; emerging enterprises in Hefei use intelligent production lines to compress production costs. At present, 12 enterprises in the region have obtained certification from the International Container Building Association, and 7 enterprises have participated in drafting industry standards. With the acceleration of the Yangtze River Delta integration process and the continued strength of prefabricated construction policies, the regional industrial synergy effect will become even more pronounced.
